Personal Development ProcessWe have a fantastic personal development process for people wanting to become Youthline Wellington counsellors and youth workers. The process involves a full day orientation to Youthline Wellington, followed by four evening sessions over four weeks (either Monday, Wednesday or Tuesday, Thursday), and culminates in a weekend camp. Following the camp we hold a final closing night, where participants learn whether they are invited onto our formal training.
We aim to make the personal development process a worthwhile, stand-alone process, that is beneficial to all participants, whether or not they go on to participate in formal training to become Helpline Counsellors. |
The process involves a group of up to 12 participants working through a range of exercises, role plays and discussions, allowing exploration and expression of their skills as potential helpline counsellors and youth workers in a safe learning environment. Participants are given the opportunity to examine their own biases and personal needs, and develop an understanding of how these affect their role in a helping relationship. Full participation is requested, and the accent is on fun as well as learning.
The personal development process is facilitated by experienced Youthline members, with support from an experienced supervisor available to both participants and facilitators.
