Mentoring for Students
Mentoring
Mentoring is a one-on-one relationship, usually with a youth worker, who will work with you to determine your goals, and a plan to achieve them so you get to where you want to be. A mentor can help you set education goals, create a CV, develop skills to find a job, find relevant courses and build your confidence socially and professionally.
Training and Programmes

Counselling
Counselling
We try to make it easy for you to get in touch by making sure that there are lots of ways you can reach us. Many of our counselling services are free, and others are very affordable.
It's normal to worry about asking for help, but we are here to listen and help you figure out what is right for you. We know that you might have a lot of questions about what happens when you reach out for the first time, so we've put together some information so you know what to expect.

Information and Resources
Best Practice
Our best practice papers are robust, well researched papers, designed to keep us and our stakeholders up to date with the latest information, research and data on current and topical issues.
Youth development is about having good information, and Youthline, as a youth and community development organisation, must be at the forefront of practice to ensure we are meeting the needs of not only young people, but a dynamic and diverse population. Best practice is constantly evolving, and so our papers have a regular review cycle. These papers inform our training, policies and practice with young people and the community. |

Research and Policy Development
We believe in hearing the voices of young people. We want to make sure that those voices are also heard by others. Hearing the voices of young people through research tells us what is happening for young people and lets us know how to help improve young people's experiences of growing up in New Zealand.
We conduct our own research projects, collaborate on research and draw upon research by others to inform our practice. We've been involved in some really interesting projects in the past, including a longitudinal study on resilience in partnership with Massey University, the effectiveness of phone and text based counselling services, reproductive issues for young men, the experience of youth sex-workers and more. |
Parenting Resources
We have a number of resources designed specifically for parents, including common topics we are most contacted about by young people.
If your organisation works with parents, we recommend you check out our section for parents which includes services on offer and good information. |
