Youth Health Councils work best when everyone is clear about their own role and responsibilities within the group.
A YHC is kind of like a sports team, where people are allocated a position based on their strengths. Everyone in an indoor netball team has a slightly different role, to ensure that the team as a whole performs well. There are coaches, captains, defenders, attackers, a person in charge of the uniforms or transport, and supporters on the sideline.
A Youth Health Council works in much the same way. When all members have an area of responsibility and everyone works together, the group can achieve great things.
While it is important to have roles within the group, it is not necessary for all have a major responsibility. A good double proverb to keep in mind is “Many hands make light work”, but “Too many cooks spoil the broth”.
