Youthline Dunedin

Formed in 1974, Youthline Otago has been serving our community and supporting our young people ever since. We provide a variety of services and programmes including helpline counselling, training, community education programmes, and face to face counselling. We are committed to offering accessible, non-judgemental services focussed on the needs of young people to the Dunedin and wider Otago area including Waitaki, Oamaru, Palmerston, Wānaka, and Queenstown. Our mission is to support and empower our young people locally and nationally to develop the skills they need to grow and live healthy fulfilled lives.

Locations / Tauwāhi

Youthline Otago's office and main hub is located in Dunedin at 28 Stuart St, however we operate out of five sites across Otago: Dunedin hub, OUSA Student Support, East Otago Health Centre in Palmerston, Oamaru hub, and Oamaru Library.

Face to Face Counselling / Kaiāwhina

We offer an affordable counselling service for individuals, families, or couples. Our trained counsellors use a person-centred strength based approach and cost of this service is calculated on a sliding scale to ensure it's accessibility to all.

Programmes and Workshops

Volunteering / Tūao

Youthline Otago is a volunteer led organisation; join us to help support and educate our community! We have a range of ways you can get involved such as helpline counselling, facilitating workshops, fundraising, promotion, events, marketing etc.! Get in contact to help us support young New Zealanders and make a real difference to people's lives.  

​​Youthline's national helpline is staffed by volunteers. Helpline counsellors are trained to ensure they are supported and equipped with the skills to take on this challenging and rewarding role. Induction training to become a helpline counsellor at Youthline Otago is held a several times a year and consists of 8 full days of training over 4 weekends.

Youthline Otago also offers voluntary internship placements for face to face counsellors. Interns must be a New Zealand Association of Counsellors provisional member or equivalent.
