Community Organisations

Working together to achieve greater impact

Welcome, and thanks for visiting. We have been working with young people and their families in New Zealand since 1970. Along the way we've made some interesting discoveries and developed some great training. We know that we cannot achieve our vision alone, and we are dedicated to working with others to create communities which relate to the needs of young people and support them to achieve their potential.

We are happy to share our discoveries, information, resources and training with others. If you are an established organisation working with young people, just starting out, or you work in a different sector but you need youth input or you are working with youth, there will be something for you here.

We also offer training and programmes for organisations looking to develop their people. If you are looking for something interactive, fun and challenging our personal development programmes are a great way to support individual and team development.

In partnership we have achieved some great things. We are always open to collaboration, whether that looks like service or programme delivery, projects, advocacy and campaigns, research or something we haven't imagined yet. Take a look at some of our existing and past community collaborations.

Information and Resources

Best Practice

Our best practice papers are robust, well researched papers, designed to keep us and our stakeholders up to date with the latest information, research and data on current and topical issues.

Youth development is about having good information, and Youthline, as a youth and community development organisation, must be at the forefront of practice to ensure we are meeting the needs of not only young people, but a dynamic and diverse population.

Best practice is constantly evolving, and so our papers have a regular review cycle. These papers inform our training, policies and practice with young people and the community.

Research and Policy Development

We believe in hearing the voices of young people. We want to make sure that those voices are also heard by others. Hearing the voices of young people through research tells us what is happening for young people and lets us know how to help improve young people's experiences of growing up in New Zealand.

We conduct our own research projects, collaborate on research and draw upon research by others to inform our practice. We've been involved in some really interesting projects in the past, including a longitudinal study on resilience in partnership with Massey University, the effectiveness of phone and text based counselling services, reproductive issues for young men, the experience of youth sex-workers and more.

Our personal development app, Good2Great, is an experiential learning tool designed to present common challenges and provide frameworks and skills to navigate them. It is an awesome tool to use with someone you are mentoring, it is something they can complete in their own time and discuss with you in more detail. It covers topics like stress management, active-listening, peer-pressure, how to support friends going through a tough time, goal-setting, holistic wellbeing and some great resources for self-care.
