This is intense training time and it is important that you can attend all sessions. Missing a session can leave you with a gap in the knowledge and development you will need if you proceed to working for Youthline Southland. The learning is cumulative and developmental, and the process of the group is a core part of this.
Also, the personal sharing involved during training is highly valued by trainees and is a strong foundation for the support that is given and needed by voluntary helpline staff and community educators; your presence for the full training is important for this reason too.
About the Trainer
Maria Snegirev, BA, DipTchg, grew up in Invercargill and recalls the generosity and goodwill of the community here as a profound influence in her life. She went on as a qualified teacher to work in education for a number of years before focusing on her work in violence prevention. For the past 18 years, Maria has worked with groups and individuals in the area of family violence, supporting people in the process of change. Maria also works in private practice as a facilitator and trainer.
Maria’s connection with Youthline dates from more than 25 years ago, when she first worked as a helpline counsellor in 1985. We are very fortunate to have her back in Southland for this training, with a wealth of experience to share and a strong commitment to the values Southlanders hold dear.
