Do you want to increase your understanding of yourself and build positive relationships?

This programme is run in conjunction with Action Education and serves as the first step in the journey towards becoming a counsellor on the Youthline Helpline, but people may choose to attend this as a stand-alone course for their own personal growth and to improve their self awareness and communication skills (and to have a really interesting experience and meet lots of great people!)

It is a lively and varied programme, using experiential activities, games, discussions and a bit of interesting theory to give you lots of opportunities to find out more about yourself and build better communication and relationship-building skills as well. It is also great for helping you learn more about working in a team, managing difference and conflict, building self esteem and confidence, goal setting and trust.

Personal Development runs for 8x2 hour weekly evening programme from 7 - 9.30pm and one full Saturday or Sunday, or a daytime programme from 10am 12.30pm and a full Saturday or Sunday. We also run a Fast Track version which combines it with the next course (Basic Youth & Community Counselling Skills) over 8-10 weekends. The evening programme gives a great deal more time to integrate and practice the skills (and have more fun!). The Fast Track can be suitable for people who already have a fair amount of Personal Development experience behind them and are comfortable in group work or who already work in counselling.

Personal Development (this course is also a prerequisite for Youthline’s Youth and Community Work Training) - open to all people 17 years and over.
Fast Track is open to all people 19 years and over.
