Young people in central Auckland will get help to make successful transitions into the world of work with new Youth Transition Services launched on April 20th by the Minister for Social Development and Employment, Hon David Benson-Pope.

The service, delivered by Youthline is free to school leavers aged 15-19 in Mt Roskill, Mt Albert, Avondale, Three Kings and Wesley.

Youth Transition Services offer career training, job seeking advice, information on educational opportunities and customised support assisting young people to make successful transitions into work or further training.

With an office open every day at 1 Akarana Ave Three Kings, the service also has a mobile unit, spending one day a week in each of the community centres in the area.

Beginning May 8th the service will be available at the Wesley Community Centre on Tuesdays, Mt Albert YMCA on Wednesdays and at the Avondale Community Centre on Fridays.

Youth workers will be on-site to connect young people with resources and supports to help plan their next steps after leaving school.

“Some young people leave school unsure about where they are headed or what opportunities they have. Youth Transition Services will help them to identify and achieve their goals,” says Service Manager Zoe Hampton.

The service is backed up by Youthline’s counselling services, youth development programmes and information resources, helping to meet young people’s social and development needs as well as assisting them to find work.

Youth Transition Services are funded by the Ministry of Social Development and Employment in partnership with Auckland City Council.
Young people can also contact the service by phone on 0800 2 YOUTHLINE.
