Youthline’s Youth Transition Services, launched in April 2007 is now expanding to Tamaki, Sandringham and Otahuhu as well as continuing to be available to young people in Mt Roskill, Mt Albert, Avondale, Three Kings and Wesley.

Youth Transition Services offer career training, job seeking advice, information on educational opportunities and customised support assisting young people aged 15-19 to make successful transitions into meaningful work or further training.

The expansion comes from recognition of the high number of young people attending schools in Tamaki, Sandringham and Otahuhu and the need for them to be supported to make the important step from school into the world beyond.

“Some young people leave school unsure about where they are headed or what opportunities they have. Youth Transition Services helps them to identify and achieve their goals,” says service manager Zoe Hampton.

The service has a team of nine dedicated youth workers and is backed up by Youthline’s counselling services, youth development programmes and information resources, helping to meet young people’s social and development needs as well as assisting them to find work.

Youth Transition Services are funded by the Ministry of Social Development and Employment in partnership with Auckland City Council.

Young people can self refer into the service or be referred by their school, family or friends. The service can be contacted by phone on 0800 2 YOUTHLINE.
