Youth creativity goes on display this Autumn with RE:DEFINE, a three week youth art exhibition at Auckland’s Aotea Centre, THE EDGE® .
Organised by Youthline, the exhibition opens May 7th to 25th and involves a selection of art works, capturing how relationship with friends, family, whanau and the community strengthen young people’s lives in Aotearoa/New Zealand.
“Youthline’s aim is to create communities that support young people to achieve their potential. The exhibition gives young people from all backgrounds a chance to come together to create art, express what it means to be a young person and be acknowledged for their contribution,” says Youthline Auckland CEO Stephen Bell.
The exhibition showcases entries from Youthline's 2008 Youth Art Competition, as well as top entries from previous years.
The competition was open to all New Zealanders who were allowed as many entries as they liked, with three prize categories for junior, senior and tertiary/community entrants. Prizes included a digital camera, an iPod, vouchers from Hannahs and Jay Jays and canvas prints by On 2 Canvas.
“We wanted young people to tell us about their experience of being young, which is sometimes quite different to what adults or society might think,” said competition organiser Nao Guy.
